Chutney Soca Monarch given more money, is it back on?
Finance Minister Colm Imbert in a press conference this afternoon January 4th, 2018, announced that an error was made in disbursement of support funds. The actual money to be offered to the Chutney Soca Monarch organizers, SouthEx, will be TT$1M.
According to Minister Imbert, for 2018 carnival season, all events were supposed to be given 60% of the amount of money granted in 2017. He indicated that an incorrect amount of TT$500K was reported to the Ministry as the 2017 grant for the Chutney Soca Monarch, when in fact it was TT$1.5M.
No word on whether the competition will be back on, as SouthEx announced the cancellation of the competition earlier today.
